Reports to: Operations Supervisor

  Position Summary : 

The Baler Operator is responsible for operating a baling machine, which compresses and binds materials like cardboard, paper, plastic, or other recyclable waste into compact bales, ensuring the machine runs efficiently while adhering to safety protocols and maintaining the work area cleanliness by monitoring material flow, loading the baler, and removing finished bales

• Operating the baler : Actively monitor the bailing machine, adjusting settings as needed to optimize compression and bale information.
• Material Handling : Feed materials into te baler hopper, ensuring proper loading and preventing jams.
• Quality Control : Inspect bales for consistency and proper binding, addressing any issues as they arise.
• Maintenance and Cleaning : Perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks on the baler, including lubrication, checking for wear and tear, and reporting any malfunctions.
• Safety Compliance : Adhere to all safety procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and following proper lockout/tagout procedures.
• Recordkeeping: Maintain operational logs, documenting bale counts, material types and any machine issues.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management or apparent.

• • Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of machine operations and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Attention to detail: Ability to monitor machine functions closely and identify potential problems.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift and maneuver bales, as well as stand for extended periods.
  • Basic Math Skills: To calculate bale weights and material volumes.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to following safety protocols and procedures.
  • No prior experience or training.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Demonstrate good attendance with the ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Day Shift – 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday, rotating days off, working every other weekend
  • Night Shift – 7pm to 7am, Monday through Friday, rotating days off, working every other weekend

  Work Environment, Schedule, and Physical Demands :

  The Bale Operator will be expected to work alongside their team, especially when there are coaching opportunities available or when the plant is experiencing significant operational interruptions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but we do expect members to wear issued hearing protection.

  The work environment is on the plant floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and we do expect members to wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) including hearing protection while on the plant floor and other required areas.

  We are a 24/7 process operation. The work schedule for this position is dictated by needs to manage and react to issues on the shifts. The planned schedule for this position is… (Ex.: Monday through Fridays 7:00 AM through 5:00 PM, however the manager will often have to work an overlapping schedule to review, communicate, coach, and train the off shifts. This position is generally on call for assistance by their team on the off shifts.

  We are a 24/7 process operation. The work schedule for this position by recurring shift rotations that will average 40-45 hours per week. The planned schedule for this position is:

  This position will require the following physical demands. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • There will be moderate lifting - up to 50 pounds,
  • Continually required to : lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, stand for several hours at a time, talk, or hear, work near moving mechanical parts, exposure to extreme heat or cold (non-weather), thermal conditions may exceed outdoor air temperatures at times,
  • Frequently required to : lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, walk, required to utilize hand and finger dexterity, climb balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl; exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather),
  • Occasionally required to: lift and/or move 50 pounds, sit, work around fumes, airborne particles (below permissible exposure limits), work in high, precarious places, exposure to outside weather conditions, thermal conditions may exceed outdoor air temperatures at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud to very loud at 85-100dB. Hearing protection is required at all times when on the plant floor.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: may require the ability to operate a forklift, skid steer, mini excavator, and aerial work platforms (Scissor Lift and Boom Lift). Company will provide equipment operator training as required for the position.
