Job Description

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Political Science.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

Teaches courses in the discipline area of Political Science. Develop and design curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement. Provides advise and academic support to students, maintains class-related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches a typical load of 12 semester-hours of undergraduate courses each semester in Political Science in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Develop and design curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a master's degree, including 18 hours in Political Science or a related field.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in traditional classroom settings and/or
  • An established interest in scholarship to seek publications in refereed journals and other scholarly
  • A commitment to student engagement and academic
  • Ability to communicate effectively, participate in departmental and university activities, and mentor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Earned D. from an accredited institution.
  • Years of experience : 3 or more years of teaching experience
  • Proven track record in scholarship, including publications and grant writing
  • Experience mentoring students, especially undergraduate students
  • Ability or interest in collaborating across departments or programs
  • Skills: Interactively engaging students to develop their enhanced critical thinking
  • Abilities: Communication at all levels and student

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment within a university setting, providing both in-person and online instruction. Utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, and email, along with technology-based learning materials and learning management systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical requirements of the job will consist of standing and/ or sitting for extended periods of time while instructing and/or engaging in meetings.
