The Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health?s Center for Infection and Immunity (CII), widely recognized as a worldwide leader in pathogen discovery, infectious disease surveillance and identifying the cause of chronic illnesses, invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for the Research Director and Phyllis Mailman Endowed Professor.
Founded in 2001, the Center for Infection and Immunity (CII) is one of the world's most advanced academic laboratories focused on pathogen discovery, infectious disease surveillance, and identifying the cause of chronic illnesses. It is a long-standing member of the WHO Global Outbreak Response Network (GOARN) and is the founding home to the Global Alliance for Preventing Pandemics (GAPP) as well as the Center for Solutions for ME/CFS. Led by W. Ian Lipkin, MD, the CII works at the forefront of outbreaks and committed to the service of global public health, collaborating with scientists from nearly 50 different countries spanning six continents. The CII has shepherded over a combined 60 postdocs and graduate students, as well as hosted multiple sabbatical professors throughout its history.
The Research Director and Phyllis Mailman Professor will possess substantive scientific achievement and, in partnership with the Director, will map the overarching direction of the Center. They will function as a transformative scientific visionary team, as well as architects and leaders, bringing capabilities in inspiring and managing teams for the next generation of science and sustaining the high functionality of the Center. It is expected that the Research Director will have a record of expertise in innate and/or adaptive immunology and/or vaccine development that complements existing Center programs in diagnostics, surveillance, and discovery in acute and chronic disease. An associate or full professor with tenure, they will have a primary appointment in one of the six departments within the Mailman School of Public Health (Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy & Management, Population & Family Health, and Sociomedical Sciences), as well as an appointment in a department in the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
