Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Our research program focuses on understanding and addressing socioeconomic and behavioral determinants of HIV risk and engagement in HIV prevention and treatment care among vulnerable populations with respect to the HIV epidemic, including men who have sex with men, transgender and non-binary people, and people who use drugs. Our ongoing projects are based in the U.S. and Brazil and include mixed-methods research with key populations and healthcare providers to examine acceptability and preferences across HIV prevention methods as well as barriers and facilitators to accessing HIV prevention and treatment services; to develop educational materials to aid HIV prevention decision-making; to implement behavioral interventions to promote engagement in HIV prevention and treatment care; among others. The Research Assistant will support the design and implementation of these different projects, including project management, data collection, analysis, and manuscript writing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operations and have direct communication with all project team members, including:

  • Attend and organize team meetings
  • Assist with project management tasks, including data management, quality control measures, monitoring expenses, and collaborating with team members to ensure adherence to the allocated budget for the projects
  • Assist in the development of study documents (e.g., questionnaires, consent forms) and IRB submissions
  • Engage in recruiting research participants online (e.g., preparing and managing ads on social media platforms) and in person
  • Conduct interviews with research participants
  • Administer surveys in person and program survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics)
  • Communicate with other members of the research team and other research and community stakeholders
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Assist with analysis of qualitative and quantitative data

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. B.A. or B.S. with no post-degree experience or equivalent specialized training and experience.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication.
  3. Excellent organizational skills.
  4. Ability to work with and coordinate with a diverse team of partners from academic and community settings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Master?s degree in public health, psychology, or other health-related fields.
  2. Data analysis (experience with statistical packages such as Stata, R, SPSS and/or qualitative software such as Dedoose or NVivo).
  3. Experience working with marginalized populations including gay and bisexual men, sex workers, among others.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a part-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding. The expected work week will be 20 hours. The position is based in person in Waterbury, CT with partial telecommuting possible.
