Laborer - Block Plant facility, Buckhannon, WV

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Understands and applies safe use and operation of the equipment and communicates with other employees about safety related matters.
• Performs all functions in a safe manner in accordance with company policy and procedures.
• Operate a forklift or a loader.
• Lift up to 50 pounds alone.
• Ability to stand on feet all day.
• Monitor the operation of concrete block manufacturing machine.
• Remove and install brick molds.
• Clean all parts of the machinery.
• Shoveling, sweeping and raking up debris from base of machinery.
• Make adjustments to calibration of machine and general repairs as needed to keep machine operating.
• Push blocks along rollers and arrange them to be placed on pallets.
• May climb on machinery to repair parts.
• May climb into and work in enclosed space when cleaning out mixer.
• Performs plant repair, maintenance and fabrication as directed.
• Inform supervisor of any maintenance or repairs needed.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities.

  Education/Experience

• Previous aggregate experience preferred.
• High school education or equivalent.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Display a professional attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
• Welding and cutting torch experience.
• General knowledge of plant maintenance.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding.
• Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works around moving mechanical parts, is exposed to both inside and outside weather conditions, noise and dusty conditions.
