JOB SUMMARY:
The Music Teacher is responsible for the instruction of students in the fundamental principles of music and musicianship skills, such as music theory, notation, and appreciation in Choral and Instrumental performance. In addition to instruction, this teacher also prepares and directs school ensembles for public performance, develops liturgical programs, and collaborates with other teachers on events. The Music Teacher will also recognize musical talent in their students in order and encourage them to undertake further musical opportunities, such as participation in clinics and auditioning for advanced groups, such as All-State Band and Choir.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony and in instrumental music and/or choral music, with a deference to Catholic heritage.
· Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within allotted time. Utilize repertoire of types of music appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
· Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and attempts to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
· Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
· Coordinates with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions and civic functions.
· Supervises students in extracurricular activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· A love of working with youth is essential in order to form the student body according to the stated mission, vision and values.
· Classroom management skills.
· Knowledge of music, music theory, and an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture.
· Email, Calendar, and software consistent with office operations. Music software skills appreciated.
· Interpersonal, written/verbal communication and presentation skills
· Public speaking and presentation skills.
CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor Degree in Music Education
· Teacher Certification with the State of Nebraska (or ability to reciprocate with another State)
· Participation in professional Music Educators Associations preferred
· The incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license in order to attend meetings and conferences as appropriate.
