Job Description

Major Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of anesthesia equipment and supplies
    • 1)Ensures anesthesia machines are available and in working order
    • 2)Verifies adequate supply of gases on the Anesthesia Cart
    • 3)Restocks, rotates stock, cleans and monitors supply levels located within Anesthesia Blue Bell carts
    • 4)Assists the Anesthesiologist in the set-up of the Operating Room as required
    • 5)Monitors the status of all equipment which is sent out of the Department of Anesthesia for repair and ensures its timely return
    • 6)Obtains supplies and equipment from other areas of the hospital as needed
    • 7)Replaces and tests machine circuit
    • 8)Calibrates oxygen sensors on a daily basis
    • 9)Cleans and maintains all Laryngeal blades and Airway masks
    • 10)Receives all supply items from internal and external sources 11. Monitors supply levels of all anesthesia supplies and ensures adequate PARR levels are available 12. Maintains supply carts in all areas in an orderly manner 13. Cleans supply carts as directed by ACMO 14. Ensures all work areas are maintained in an orderly fashion at all times 15. Ensures all equipment is maintained in a clean fashion and returned to storage area.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Operating Rooms prior to each surgical procedure
    • 1)Prepares all IV set-ups, blood warmers, and arterial Lines
    • 2)Assists anesthesiologists in all highly complex procedures and Code 10-2 situations as required
    • 3)Assists in direct patient care under the direct supervision of the RN or MD
    • 4)Cleans instrumentation/endoscopic scopes using proper care and handling as directed within hospital safety guidelines
    • 5)Returns all sterile supplies to the Anesthesia Workroom or supply areas of the Operating Rooms as indicated
    • 6)Transports Anesthesia machine and supply carts as directed throughout Surgery and other areas of the hospital
    • 7)Maintains annual competency related to performance of Point of Care testing
  • Participates in maintenance of the Anesthesia Department
    • 1)Monitors and records temperature of Anesthesia refrigerator
    • 2)Maintains and files Point of Care testing records for the department
    • 3)Maintains inventory of compressed gas tanks ensuring inventory levels and gauges are available
    • 4)Participates in the orientation of new staff
    • 5)Answers phones communicates information to the Operating Room staff
Education/Experience Required

  • High School education 1 year hospital experience in any area

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Ability to use computer keyboard Knowledge of medical terminology
  • CPR

Physicial Requirements And Working Conditions

  • Ability to successfully complete hospital-based training for Anesthesia Technician Ability to rotate shifts to provide coverage Willing to be called off based on unit demands Exposure to various contagious disease, radiation, chemical, caustic materials, electrical equipment and hazards associated with their use Ability to handle multiple requests for assistance and to work in a fast paced environment
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
